What Is The "Spirit Of Chrstmas?"

Is it spending till our credit cards melt?
Hardly, I would think.

Is it fighting ever growing crowds in the stores?
Hardly, I would think.

Is it worrying yourself sick over the money you spent, knowing you'll never be able to cover that credit card bill?
Hardly, I would think.

Who told us we had to be "in the Christmas spirit", and why?

If "Jesus is the reason for the season", isn't he also responsible for the tremendous greed each "season" brings? Quoting a dear friend from an email w/o permission; "Jesus isn't the reason for the season and if you are a christian you should be celebrating your Christ all year long."

When does "the season" start? "Black Friday?" And "Jesus is the reason for the season" huh?

'Pose WE are "the reason for the season", be "the season" a funeral, a birthday or just a quiet dinner?

What say we quit being "shoehorned" "pigeonholed", and just be ourselves?

Nobody Else Can.:)

christmas is one day a year- and that could probably be up for debate since christianity stole the date from the pagans in order to assimilate them...the pagans actually celebrated better- they had a 4 day celebration with food and games and celebrated the winter solstice...they brought some evergreen inside to decorate and spent the time with friends and family enjoying each other's company...simple gifts were exchanged and i imagine they were homemade since wal-mart hadn't been invented yet...

Xmas had always been a disappointment even before they started moving the start of the season earlier and earlier. There's all this build-up and hype and come the day, you go, "This is it???" Even so, I never really had a problem with the season until the Faux Noise machine started their "War on Xmas". Now if you say "Happy Holidays" some Bible-Banger will bitch at you that it's merry xmas!!!! Others are bitching about the X in xmas like it's a bad thing when it's been in common usage longer than the celebration of xmas. Fuck'em if they can't take a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!

No disagreement. I think the card is the most honest expression I've seen. Hallmark is missing out.

I'm not religious, but I love Christmas - it's the one time in the year I have all my, and my extended family under my roof - no school, Uni, work - just a great excuse for a feast, catching up together, and giving each other presents we CAN AFFORD to give. Oh, and I NEVER set foot in a store in December, I order everything on-line, including my groceries!

Merry Christmas, dearest grump, I hope you and yours have a brilliant time anyway ((x))!
